Many women in rural Nigeria face life-threatening delays during labour due to lack of transport. This project will provide an emergency transport system for pregnant women and those facing maternal emergencies. Local drivers will be trained and placed on standby with motorcycles or tricycles. The goal is to reduce deaths caused by long delays in reaching help, especially at night or during heavy rains.
In many rural areas, pregnant women in labour or facing emergencies die because they cannot reach help in time. Roads are bad, transport is expensive or unavailable, and many deliveries happen at night. Some women give birth on the roadside or arrive too late to save their baby. The delay in reaching care is one of the biggest causes of maternal death in Nigeria.
We will set up an emergency transport network using local drivers with motorcycles or tricycles. Drivers will be trained and placed on standby in key villages. Families will call a local number when a woman is in labour or distress. The project will cover fuel, communication, and safety tools. This simple system can save lives by reducing delays in care.
The project will reduce deaths caused by transport delays. It will build a local network of trained drivers who can respond quickly when help is needed. Families will know where to turn in an emergency. As trust in the system grows, fewer women will give birth alone or without help. Communities will continue running the service with local support.
