Many girls in Malawi skip or drop out of school simply because of lack of sanitary pads. We want to change that by producing re-usable sanitary pads. 600 sanitary pads will be distributed to rural school girls every month free of charge in Malawi, Africa. Sustainability? The project will produce other apparel such as school uniforms and bags in order to sustain itself. So your donation will keep girls in school for a very long time to come
Menstrual hygiene in Malawi is a big challenge even among the well to do women. But the challenge is even greater for rural women. Sanitary pads are not only expensive but also in many cases completely inaccessible. You can change this through your donation which will make rural girls access sanitary pads free of charge
Our sanitary pads will go straight to rural marginalised girls in secondary schools for free. Initially we intend to produce 600 pads each month, but we will scale up without seeking further assistance from donors through other income generation activities from the same project. The project will create incomes for locals, accessible pads to girls, environmentally friendly pads. The number 600 is because we want to be as realistic as possible and create maximum impact with your donation.
The long term impact is great. This project will scale up its production in 2 years. It is also a model that can be adopted by other organisations and community groups, it will create incomes for the workers directly producing the pads to those distributing them. Women who have been trained at the project can venture out and set up their own production facilities.
