During our recent World Bladder Cancer Awareness event in May 2025, we discovered many women quietly struggling with bladder cancer, often without knowing what it is. About 90% of the women we spoke to had heard of cancer in general but didn't know about bladder cancer, meaning many cases go unnoticed and untreated. This project aims to close that information gap by raising awareness and providing treatment for 100 women identified during our campaign.
Many women in Nigeria face bladder cancer without knowing what it is or how to get help. Most have never heard of bladder cancer, so symptoms are ignored or mistaken for other issues. This lack of awareness, combined with limited access to diagnosis and treatment, means many women suffer in silence until the disease becomes very advanced-making it harder to treat and more deadly.
This project will raise awareness about bladder cancer, helping women recognize symptoms early and seek medical care. It will also provide financial support for diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for 100 women identified during our awareness activities. By tackling both the knowledge gap and treatment barriers, the project aims to reduce the number of women suffering or dying from untreated bladder cancer.
By helping 100 women get diagnosed and treated, this project can reduce avoidable deaths linked to late-stage bladder cancer. It will also increase awareness in local communities, so more women can recognise symptoms early and seek help. Over time, this can lead to earlier detection, better survival rates, and more open conversations about women's health in Nigeria.
