Saving Cholera Victims in DR Congo

By AGIZO | Cordinator

In South and North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), cholera remains a serious threat to families already struggling with the consequences of armed conflict, displacement, and limited access to clean water. Children, older people, and displaced families are particularly vulnerable when safe drinking water, proper sanitation, and timely medical care are unavailable.

Through the Save Cholera Victims in DR Congo's Conflict Zone project, we aim to provide emergency cholera care, distribute hygiene kits and water purification tablets, establish handwashing stations, and train local health workers to recognize symptoms and respond quickly. Our goal is to help prevent further infections, save lives, and give vulnerable communities the knowledge and resources they need to protect themselves.

Progress and Use of Funds

Our project has a total fundraising target of $85,000, and $381 has been raised so far through our fundraising efforts on GlobalGiving. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who has already contributed. Every donation represents a valuable step toward bringing life-saving assistance to communities at risk.

The project is currently in its preparation and resource-mobilization phase. We are identifying suitable trainers and prospective learners to support the planned training activities. The implementation phase will begin once the necessary preparations and resources are in place. Funds raised will support the project's planned emergency health, water, sanitation, hygiene, and community training activities. We remain committed to using donations responsibly and keeping our supporters informed as the project progresses.

Expected Impact and Next Steps

With the support of our donors, we aim to improve access to cholera prevention and emergency assistance for conflict-affected families in North and South Kivu. The planned activities will help communities understand how cholera spreads, recognize warning signs, improve hygiene practices, and seek medical attention promptly. The project also seeks to strengthen local capacity to respond to future outbreaks.

Although we have raised only a small portion of our overall target, we believe that continued collaboration with GlobalGiving and the generosity of individual donors can help us move closer to our goal. Reaching the $85,000 target will require sustained support, wider awareness, and the participation of people who believe that every life deserves protection.

A Message of Gratitude and a Call for Support

We extend our heartfelt thanks to GlobalGiving for providing a platform through which our project can reach a wider community of supporters. We are equally grateful to every donor who has contributed, shared our campaign, or helped raise awareness of the urgent needs facing vulnerable families in eastern DRC.

We invite you to stand with us and help protect lives threatened by cholera. Your donation, whatever its size, can bring us one step closer to providing essential health services, safer water, and practical hygiene support to families who need them most. We also encourage you to share this project with friends, colleagues, and networks that may be willing to help.

Together, with continued support through GlobalGiving, we can work toward our $85,000 fundraising goal and bring life-saving assistance within reach of more vulnerable communities.

Thank you for believing in this mission and for helping us turn compassion into action.
