Challenge

Household Air Pollution provokes more deaths than Malaria, Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS combined. Traditional cook stoves also impose a high dependency on charcoal taking a high toll on poor families' budget, but also are a major course of environmental degradation.

Solution

We will provide unique Mozambican patented and locally assembled charcoal-free clean cook stoves to rural women, which use entirely readily available vegetable reuse. By eliminating the dependency on charcoal, the project will re-direct spending on cooking into well being of families. Families will be enable to pay back the cookstove in 3-5 months and increase disposable income by up 20%. Grant financing will be used to create a revolving fund, which can accelerate the adoption of cookstoves.

Long-Term Impact

The cookstove will help low-income families in Mozambique gain access to clean energy by providing them with an unique solution, which uses entirely vegetable residuals (e.g.coconut cobs, dry leaves, pellet), minimizing negative health hazards from traditional cooking, deforestation and the purchase of charcoal, while also producing biochar, a natural fertilizer.
