Our school serves over 100 families, the majority of whom have lost their income due to the crisis. As a private school, this means that most of our families will not be able to pay tuition this year. The Ministry of Education has just announced that if families do not commit to the year of tuition by matriculating they will lose this year of schooling. Help us get scholarships for 20 students to study this year!
Canoa's primary industry is tourism, and all business are closed. Access to food and supplies is becoming a problem for many families. In the next few weeks, they must pay a $30 matriculation fee or their child will lose a year of schooling. With that matriculation, they must commit to another year of tuition, even if they can no longer afford it. If parents can't pay, the Foundation will have no income to pay the teachers. If we can't find the funding we need, we fear the school will close.
Scholarships for our families means lower costs for them and income for the school to pay the teachers. With luck, no student will lose a school year, and families can keep their income, thus helping to move the local economy.
If the foundation is unable to pay the teachers and their health insurance the school will have to close. Los Algarrobos is special for this community. It is the only opportunity for students to learn in a smaller classroom environment, with English and computer classes, in the entire county. Providing scholarship for this school year in crisis ensures that other students can continue to study here for years to come.
