Life Saving Treatment to Children in Rural India

50 kilometers from the city of Udaipur, the only way to reach Jhabla is to take the early morning bus. Once you manage to get off the overcrowded bus a 6 kilometer trek awaits you to reach the village.  This is something that the migrant labors travelling each day are quite similar with. Another issue that everyone is familiar with is the lack of health care facilities for the residents of this village. In Today’s time when science and modern medicines are doing wonders, it’s sadly the ultimate truth that curative health care has not yet been able to make its reach in these remote hamlets of rural India.

 Seva Mandir through its immunization camps reach out to pregnant women and children who need to be vaccinated and immunized against fatal diseases. At present Seva Mandir reaches out to  over 1700 women pregnant women and 3500 children every year in remote villages of Districts of South Rajasthan.

Rama says -“I was anemic during my second pregnancy and was referred to the doctor. My baby was born in the 7^thmonth but its life was saved because of the immunization team’s timely advice. Now I suggest all the pregnant ladies in my village to be vaccinated in time”  

There are hundreds of women in our working area who have such tales to tell and this would have been possible with your support. However there are still numerous expecting mothers and children who need your support.

Deu, 24, is a resident of village AmbaKa Vela (Shishvi Zone). This village fares low in terms of health facilities for its residents and thus Seva Mandir started the immunization camp which caters to the pregnant women and the children.

 Deu came to the immunization camp during her second pregnancy and during the checkups it was revealed that her hemoglobin level was very low and she was anemic. The immunization team advised her to consult a doctor immediately as otherwise it would prove to be dangerous for her as well as the child. However, she did not give importance to the advice and never went to the doctor.

 On her second visit to the camp, the team again asked her to consult a doctor and also counseled her family members about the same. She was then taken to the hospital in ‘kurabad’ from where she was referred to the Udaipur Hospital. The woman delivered in her 7th month and she was put on drip as her condition was poor. She gave birth to a still born child but the doctors were able to save her life. She had become very weak after the delivery but has gradually regained her strength.

 The immunization team’s timely advice and appropriate counseling saved her life and this experience has also proved to be a learning experience for Deu for her future pregnancy.

At present, these camps reach out to over 1700 women pregnant women and 3500 children every in remote villages of Districts of South Rajasthan.  This would have not been possible without your constant encouragement and support.
