Summary

All started with the renovation of a school for around 1,700 children in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, in 2021. We renovated a huge building, provided water supply, the first toilet facilities and a school kitchen. Meanwhile, we offer family- & medical aid and clean drinking water. The children have the opportunity to shape their future in their home country. Education is the key to success in Nigeria as well and healthcare and clean water are the foundation for a life worth living in rural areas.

Challenge

The school buildings in Afikpo are in a very bad condition, there was no drinking water, no toilets, no school canteen. There are still classrooms where more than 300 children are taught. There is a lack of basic infrastructure, and the rooms are very hot. Most of the residents in Afikpo suffer from contaminated drinking water, get sick, but have no money for medical treatment. Many people suffer from these grievances and live with their serious illnesses without help.

Solution

Our goal is to renovate a school complex step by step. A dilapidated building has already been renovated, we have set up a water supply, built toilets and a school canteen and we run a small school. Children from poor families receive financial support to cover school fees, meal and clothes. We built a water factory & supply 4 million liters of clean drinking water to 4,000 people per year. We work "on the street", financing medical treatment for poor residents and surgeries in the hospital.

Long-Term Impact

With better education, children are ready to compete in the job market. However, there is a close link between education and health. Only when children are given the chance to live a healthy life and receive an education, they will stay. There are opportunities to work for the government, become entrepreneurs and create jobs for themselves and others. Some of them could be successful farmers. With our work, we reach 5,000 locals and give them a future. Annual needed budget is around USD 40,000.
