At our Tahama Learning Center, children helped to plant five native trees earlier this month. Tree planting is a valuable part of the curriculum for these kindergartners, who engage in both outdoor learning and environmental education. Students also helped to plant a school garden, but unfortunately the plants were damaged by a combination of delayed and heavy rains. We hope they will be able to replant some of the garden next month.
A part-time grounds person, who lives in the village, will care for the trees using water from our rainwater catchment system. These trees were purchased from a small, community-based organization in the Bolga region. We hope to use this initial planting to build a larger partnership in the future.
