Summary

Now more than ever, youth (especially girls) in Pakistan need access to safe and quality education. This project provides scholarships to youth who would not otherwise have access, uniforms, quality teachers that receive training on current teaching methodologies, books/school supplies, and access to education that cultivates critical thinking and results in greater earning potential in the future. In order to build gender equity among our students we support both girls and boys.

Challenge

There are over 25 million school aged children in Pakistan not in school, and a majority of which are girls. Without education, critical thinking capabilities, and economic opportunities, impoverished youth are susceptible not only to poverty but vulnerable to recruitment into extremist organizations, forced early marriage and forced full time labor in order to support their families.

Solution

Moqah Foundation provides youth with quality education that increases self-confidence, improves abilities to make informed decisions, and ensures development of marketable skills so they can be contributing members of society. In addition, we provide opportunities for meaningful cross cultural dialogues with students overseas, addressing stereotypes, ignorance, and fostering more aware global citizens.

Long-Term Impact

Educating youth (and ensuring girls and women's education) improves conditions of poverty, the health status of children, and the economic development of their communities. Statistics reveal that for every 1% increase in education there is a .3% increase in economic growth. In order to build gender equity among the students we admit boys once their sisters are enrolled and attending (if applicable). These girls would otherwise be forced into early marriage or not allowed to pursue education.
