Send Baru Students to Training School

Issa studied Table & Bar at the Technical and Entrepreneurship School of Baru. She already finished both, the theorical and practical phase of her career. Now, she is working at a renowned hotel located near her community. We contacted Issa to congratulate her and to ask her about her experience. This is what she told us:

“I am picking up the fruits of so many early mornings in which, while everyone were still sleeping, I had to leave an hour early from Baru, to be on time for the Table and Bar classes in Santa Ana. Those were difficult days, especially during the rainy season, in which I left my house dry, but I arrived at school soaked, because of the rain on the way there.

I can’t still believe what I'm experiencing! Sometimes I feel like it is not real. I am working in the Table and Bar area, in a 5-star hotel that is highly recognized nationally and internationally. It is nice to work here. There is a lot of camaraderie among the employees, and I learn something new every day. When I was studying, I always felt like I had still too many thinks to learn, such as names, recipes, and ingredients. Here, I have realized that I am just beginning the process.

I am very happy because know, I can take care of my household expenses and I financially help my family. It all has been worth it! I would do it again as many times as necessary. May God allow me to continue growing and making the most of every opportunity.”

“I am a simple, loving and kind woman. My name suited me well!” - says Honey proudly, while smiling -.

“I have always been a very positive woman and very committed to my future. That's why I decided to study the Cooking Technician program. There were 9 months of lots of learning in classes and in the practical workshops in the kitchen. There were days when traveling from Baru to Santa Ana was very difficult, due to the rain or because I didn’t have someone to look after my 3-year-old son, but I always found the way and went to my classes.

My husband works as a Bartender at a hotel in Baru and he has been a great support and motivation during this process. He says he wants me to prepare myself so that I can find a good job, for me and for our son, as he was able to find it.

And well, after the green ones, the mature ones have arrived, as we say here in Colombia, because at the end of July, I started my internship in a very renowned restaurant in Cartagena, which specializes in gourmet hamburgers.

Before, I thought that hamburgers were a neighborhood food, just fast food, but I have learned to take them to another level, with a good mix of flavors that you might think don't combine. However, when you try them, it is something else, it is something different and delicious.

I feel very happy and grateful for everything I have been able to achieve. Next year, I will finish my internship and after graduating I hope to get the job I have dreamed of in one of the Hotels near my community”.
