The Half Day School (HDS) Program aims to provide non-formal education, life skills training, and practical vocational training continue to help the students develop their skills and build towards safe and self-sufficient futures. The program also gives students frequent opportunities to development themselves and their community awareness, along with other critical life skills. We are currently serves 42 children of ethnic minorities with various training and educational activates becomes more impressive every day and continues to teach growing numbers of children about sustainable, self-sufficient techniques to meet their basic needs and to prevent human trafficking by reducing the vulnerability of our children.

Since our last report, students at HDS have creative and special classes such as creating and playing musical instruments and art & drawing classes aside from our regular classes. The Yall project team, Danny DeBlasio and Catherine Hart, taught and guided our students in taking photographs and painting a mural for three months. The children have learned about photography, they took pictures of what they felt had to go on the mural. The students selected their favorite photos and these were incorporated in the mural. These activities help to provided students an opportunity to develop creative thinking skills and improve their artistic skills. They learned to understand the world around them through their own lens. Another special class was the music class with traditional Thai bamboo flute, the Khlui. Khun Sompop, the founder of DEPDC/GMS made Khlui for all of the students and teachers in DEDPC/GMS. Our children were so happy and excited to have their own musical instruments to play their own melodies. After a few weeks almost all students were able to play a few songs.

The Annual Sports Day on February 9 gave our students the opportunity to compete, exercise and have fun with friends, whilst learning fundamental skills such as teamwork, discipline and respect. The children were separated into two groups, the black and the blue team and played sprint, sack hop, the spoon race, tug-of-war, and so on. Here kids do not have many chances to do physically activities, so they enjoy watching and participating in the sport games. The teachers at the Half Day School have taught students the right etiquette on the sports ground. The black team was defeated by the blue team, which they gracefully accepted.

Another highlight of this term was our international student volunteers from University of Missouri and Daemen college in the US. They helped to repaint our school’s old wall and build a new tree house shelter called the “Play Home in Nature”. The volunteers also taught all of the students English with various new and funny games and activities.

To all of the supporters of the Half Day School and DEPDC/GMS, thank you for your kind attention and generosity. Without support from you, our programs will continue to make important differences in the lives of vulnerable, underprivileged children and continue to tackle poverty, exploitation and human trafficking.
