CW Girls wish you a Happy Thanksgiving
November is my special month to more profoundly reflect on my blessings and top of the list is that I am in deep gratitude to be a part of Chicuchas Wasi (CW) the last 28 years. When I feel and express gratitude for the blessings I have received, I notice that my heart opens and my ability to love more grows
"It's not happiness that brings us gratitude.
It is gratitude that brings us happiness." -unknown.
CW has so much to be thankful for. Just look into the laughing faces of our 110 girls as they enthusiastically reach out for their dreams, erasing the memory of the early days when the light did not shine in those eyes.
We are about to end the 2015 school year 1 month early due to El Nino, with this year's graduating class. CW is truly blessed. Because of YOU the school is successful and our girls are often winning awards for their achievements. THANK YOU!

In order for CW girls to personally grow and expand their minds during the 8 school years with us and beyond, requires the support of their families. Convincing parents how education will open doors to a brighter future for their daughters and reap benefits for the entire family was a huge challenge 18 years ago when the school opened. Today, we have enthusiastic and hard working parents who participate in classroom activities, make the road passable to the school after heavy rains, and help raise money and awareness for CW school during Cusco's traditional celebrations and special school days. Ruth is so happy to see the growing parental participation; now 50% of parents -mostly mothers but increasingly more fathers show up at parent meetings, and many do their part to make CW school the best school.
A school is nothing more than a cold building without good teachers and we have the best, the most dedicated and passionate teachers on our CW team. There is nothing they will not do to make this the best education and loving safe space for our girls. During summer vacation one year, Ruth and the teachers decided to paint and brighten up their classrooms and in the process enjoyed themselves while joking with their co-workers.
Our part time husband & wife teachers, Ivan for English and Carmen for Art, have grown to love of CW and our girls and often join in the special events at the school.
The CW cooks go out of their way to come up with tasty economical recipes to boost student health, many fluctuate between moderate to severe anemia, to make sure their meals are high protein and nutritious. They understand that there is little at home to provide this.
Our school van driver is not only the happiest driver I have ever seen, when not driving girls to and from their pick up location, he is handy around the school making needed repairs for Ruth and is a bright light as an integral part of the school team.
CW is blessed to have global supporters from many countries that cheer the girl's progress and keep in touch on Facebook, emails and writing their reviews on www.greatnonprofits.org YOUR donations provide the quality of education and personal guidance that our girls receive.

Already preparing for the next school year in March 2016, our students have been busy nominating, debating and electing the new school mayor - the liaison between students and teachers. CW leadership training begins in kindergarten and is in full swing at election time, all eyes are watching to learn how the debate and voting works. This they will share with their parents.

"On August 20th, 2015 my husband and I had the opportunity to visit Chicuchas Wasi. I was so impressed with Ruth’s dedication, endless energy and love towards not only all the students, but also her staff, the parents of the students and the community. The Chicuchas Wasi teachers and staff are awesome and very dedicated to the young ladies they are educating, by not only giving them the academic tools but also giving them the tools to build their self-pride, self-reliance and self-confidence for a successful future. The Chicuchas Wasi program educates young ladies from pre-school until 6th grade. We were invited to visit every classroom and were welcomed with songs, poetry, safety lesson, art lesson, English class and a science project. The Chicuchas Wasi young ladies overcome extreme hardships to get an education, yet they all were very welcoming. Their songs and poetry expressed how grateful they are for their education (which is free), how much they love their teachers and especially their director Ruth. I left each classroom with tears in my eyes and a heart full of love from all the hugs I received. Visiting Chicuchas Wasi was the highlight of our visit to Cusco and I am so glad to be a little part of the Chicuchas Wasi family." - Isabel
