Happy and nervous are the little 4&5 year old girls about to start school. Director Ruth and Assistant Director and Kindergarten teacher Gloria welcome our youngest new students. A proud dad smiles big off to the side as his daughter takes her first step toward a life of opportunity with education.
Thank you all for your donations to purchase a school bus like this (we almost have it) for the young girls at the Chicuchas Wasi School for Girls, Cusco, Peru. Next month we will have more to tell with photos.

New class workbooks, (created by our teachers and director for every subject) and every student receives the needed school supplies to begin the school and they are responsible to take care of them in their pencil bag and backpack for the school year.
"Looking at the CW girls photos today reminds me of my schools days in Peru. Remembering how excited I was at the start of each new school year, it meant having new notebooks for every subject "forrado" (laminate the cover) with fun color paper and stickers. We also got new school supplies and if we were lucky, new shoes and clothes. I can relate to how these little girls feel, excited and also nervous but mostly excited and happy to reunite with classmates and friends. All of them with their crisp, freshly ironed uniforms and shined school shoes, just like me in primary school in Urubamba, Peru.
Our CW girls are very lucky and appreciative of everything our school does for them and they couldn't feel any more proud! Most, like myself, grew up poor and with parents who couldn't afford to send them to school, let alone buy school supplies, uniforms, or pay for other expenses such as field trips. So when you are given an opportunity to attend school (like I had), not just any school but our special CW school, one is more than grateful and wants to succeed and take advantage of every opportunity." -Rosa, CW board member today

What a visitor has to say about Chicuchas Wasi
"I became familiar with Chicuchas Wasi about 8 years ago and have since then followed its evolution. I have only visited it once, happily being invited to the official inauguration of the new school. This place is amazing in so many ways. First, the general atmosphere is so comforting. One feels immediately the happiness of these of these children to be there. Having had the chance on the inauguration day to meet many parents, it was also obvious that for them, knowing their girls are in such a loving environment is a huge relief from the hardship of their daily lives.
Ruth, the director of the school is a unique person. She shines in the presence of the girls and one can see how dedicated she is and how she strives to get the best for the girls as well as for their parents in ways of coaching them.
I had tears in my eyes when the girls happily and heartily sang and danced on the inauguration day and upon my visit. All the people I met involved in one way or another with Chicuchas Wasi are really involved and caring for the project, which makes it a very viable project. Nevertheless it still needs support in many forms, including financial, as Ruth has great ambition for the girls welfare.
The setting of the school is amazing. Just below Cusco. The school is well organized, with food provided to the children, good classrooms and a diversity of subjects taught according to the age of the girls. Even medical care and dental check-ups are available when possible. People who visit Chicuchas Wasi are usually all ready to help in whatever way they can, because it is obviously a successful project that can only bring good to these girls who otherwise would not have this opportunity for a brighter, educated future. Being a social media addict, it is really nice to be regularly informed via Facebook of what is going on in the school and about the welfare of the girls." -Flore
