Later this month it is believed that Guatemala will open their schools for children to learn in person once again. It will be a massive change for the children of Guatemala, who are nearing two whole years without in-person classes. The past two years have been extremely difficult for students as they try to continue their studies without the presence of teachers or learning aids, and many have hope that this year they will finally be able to get back on track with their studies.
There is also a big change happening with our school this year. The school will be known as the Vista Hermosa Center for the new school year and moving forward. This is to represent the catchment area for the school, which is the village of Vista Hermosa. Vista Hermosa translates in English to ´Beautiful View´ and this is exactly what you have when you look out from the Vista Hermosa Center towards Jocotenango and Agua Volcano. We wanted to celebrate the view as part of our school’s identity and to represent metaphorically the beautiful view towards the future that we hope our students will have when studying there.
This year we will we working in partnership with La Escuela Integrada de Niños Trabajadores (Integrated School for the Working Children), a non-profit organization helping provide education for children in Guatemala since 2003, to provide an education for 200 children in the Vista Hermosa Center. We are so excited for the children to be once again filling up the Vista Hermosa Center and working hard towards a better future.
We also have a number of future plans that we are currently working on to provide catch-up and tutoring classes for our children who have fallen behind, but you will need to keep following us to find out more information further down the line.
The GOD’S CHILD Project has been breaking the chains of poverty in Guatemala through education, housing and healthcare for over 30 years. Please donate to support us in our mission and change the life of a Guatemalan child through education.
