Dear donors,
Smallholder farmers in rural Nigeria face a daily struggle: walking up to 10 km on rough terrain without proper footwear. This exposes them to foot infections, injuries from thorns and sharp stones, and even snake bites. Recent surveys show that 38% of these farmers suffer foot infections, while 24% lose workdays during the planting season due to untreated wounds. With limited income, they cannot afford durable shoes, trapping them in a cycle of poor health and reduced productivity.
The “Shoes for 500 Struggling Nigerian Farmers” project will provide durable, locally made shoes to 500 farmers, reducing the risk of injury and infection and ensuring they can continue working safely. Shoes will be distributed through community associations, ensuring transparency and efficiency. By protecting their feet, farmers will maintain steady productivity, avoid medical costs, and contribute to local food security.
Immediate support is critical as the harvest season approaches, when farmers spend extended hours in the fields. While we are grateful for the initial donation received, additional funds are needed to reach the project threshold and begin distribution. With proper footwear, these farmers can work safely, support their families, and strengthen their communities, creating lasting health and economic benefits for rural Nigeria.
Warm regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
