Many Nigerian graduates find it difficult to establish themselves or find a job after school. And many who didn't attend tertiary institutions and should be undergoing vocational training are not receiving it. They are not finding formal employment. Given the scale of Nigeria, it is a challenge not only for Nigeria, but for Africa and the entire world. That is why it's important to kit these able bodied women, girls and boys to be self reliant through vocational skills empowerment.
On daily basis, young men, women & families are leaving Nigeria through illegal routes with hopes for a better life. The resultant consequence of this trend is the countless loss of lives being recorded in the N/African deserts and and on the Mediterranean & Aegean seas enroute to Europe. Many of these illegal migrants usually end up in the hands of slave masters, forced labour, forced prostitution and sometimes subjected to having their organs forcefully harvested & sold in the black market.
This capacity development program will empower young women, girls and boys with vocational skills that will boost their chances for employment or enable them to create jobs for themselves for their livelihood. The project will be accompanied with talks, seminars and orientation forums during which trainees will be lectured on the dangers of using illegal migration routes and on how to identify fake offers for non-existent job opportunities abroad which often ends in slavery of different forms.
If this program is adopted and sustained over a period of time, it can significantly reduce the number of women, girls and young men who are socio-economically vulnerable, thereby making them less susceptible to social vices and falling victims of trafficking locally and abroad for prostitution and other related perils. If sustained, this program also has the potency to reduce the frequent drowning of African migrants on the Mediterranean and Aegean seas.
