Many children in rural Nigeria walk long distances barefoot to school, farms, and markets. This exposes them to injuries, infections, and heat burns, especially during dry season. Most families cannot afford basic footwear. This project will provide slippers to 1,500 children in underserved villages across Nasarawa, Kogi, Borno, and Benue states. Each child will receive a durable, washable pair of slippers to protect their feet and reduce the risk of disease.
In many villages in Nigeria, children walk barefoot to school, markets, and water points. This exposes them to cuts, infections, and heat-related burns, especially during dry season. Some children contract hookworms or other soil-transmitted diseases. Most families cannot afford slippers, even at low cost. The lack of footwear makes children more prone to illness, injury, and missed school days.
We will buy and distribute 1,500 pairs of washable, rubber slippers to children in villages across Nasarawa, Kogi, and Benue states. Community leaders will help identify children most in need. Slippers will be purchased from local markets to support small traders. Distribution will happen through schools, village meetings, and health workers. Each child will be fitted properly to avoid size mismatches.
With proper footwear, children can walk safely and avoid foot injuries and soil-borne diseases. This will reduce missed school days and medical expenses for low-income families. Slippers can last several months, especially during dry season. The project may also encourage better hygiene as children protect their feet during daily activities. Supporting local vendors keeps funds within the communities served.
