For families in Eswatini's Lubombo region, our Kudvumisa Community Clinic is a lifeline against the immense hardship of poverty, disease, and lack of access. We provide vital services, including subsidized care for those who can't afford treatment. A few years ago, we took a bold step towards sustainability by installing solar panels in the clinic, aiming to create a reliable, outage-free facility while reducing long-term operational costs. We were hopeful that this switch from the traditional grid to renewable energy would allow us to redirect funds, previously earmarked for electricity, towards essential services, outreach programs, and medication. However, the current system isn't sufficient. We still rely on the Eswatini Electricity Company to run our clinic, and with rising electricity costs and impending tariff hikes, the gap between our resources and the community's growing needs is widening. Every Lilangeni spent on electricity is a Lilangeni not spent on critical supplies, expanded services, and outreach.
Our urgent goal is to achieve a fully solar-powered clinic. This transition will not only be environmentally responsible but, more importantly, will drastically reduce our operating costs. This will free up precious resources, ensuring that everyone we serve through our clinic, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the quality care they deserve.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we've already raised $5,606 towards our $25,000 goal! It's through this compassionate support that we've been able to reach so many in the region, providing crucial healthcare services and making a real difference in their lives. We are deeply grateful for your belief in our mission. However, the rising cost of electricity continues to strain our resources, highlighting the urgent need for a fully sustainable solution. To achieve our vision of a fully solar-powered clinic and secure long-term healthcare access for the community, we need to raise an additional $19,394. Every contribution counts: a gift of as little as $10 will help purchase wiring for a solar panel, while a gift of up to $500 can fund an entire panel.
Our solar expansion project is more than just about saving money; it's about investing in the health and well-being of our community and empowering individuals to take control of their health in order to break the vicious cycle of poverty. We invite you to join us in this vital effort and to directly invest in a healthier, brighter future for the people of Lubombo.
