After a shipping delay this winter, which is not unexpected given the difficulties of shipping anythign into Somaliland, our partners at Direct Relief successfully delivered 100 solar Luke Lights and 25 solar Chandler Charger battery packes to the Edna Adan Hospital. Specifically, these Lights and Chargers will go to Health Centers in the rural communities that the hospital helps support. Edna Adan reported: "these Lights and Chargers will be useful for our outreach activities in the villages where we send our staff and students to support the community. Solar lights are useful when we visit a mother, child, or sick person, as the huts are very dark and our nurses find it difficult to help if they cannot see."
We know that the addition of a single solar light can make the difference between life and death for a family, and we are so grateful for your support on this project. Midwives save lives and in these settings, an equipped and trained midwife is often the only trained medical provider in an entire community. Giving her the tools she needs is bringing light and life to the world.
