Project Update Report
Project Title: Restoring Hope to Children Affected by Floods
Location: Rumbek East County, Lakes State
Organization: South Sudan Grassroots Initiative for Development (SSGID)
Project Status & Progress Update
During this reporting period, SSGID did not receive any funding for the project "Restoring Hope to Children Affected by Floods."
Despite this challenge, SSGID remains fully committed to supporting the flood-affected communities in Rumbek East County, Lakes State. Our team continues to work tirelessly on the ground monitoring child protection needs, engaging local community leaders, and pushing forward with active outreach, fundraising, and resource mobilization. We are determined to secure the necessary support to bring immediate relief and protection to the children and families impacted by severe flooding in the county.
Community Story: Hope and Resilience in Rumbek East
In flood-prone areas across Rumbek East County, rising waters have submerged homes, damaged livelihoods, and cut children off from safe learning environments.
During a recent community monitoring visit in the county, our team met a young girl whose family was forced into a temporary settlement after floodwaters reached their home. Despite losing her exercise books and being unable to attend school, she spends her afternoons gathering other displaced children under the shade of a tree, leading them in games and local songs to keep their spirits up. When asked what she wanted most, her answer was simple: to go back to learning in a safe environment.
Her strength reflects the resilience of children across Lakes State. Even without external project funding during this cycle, SSGID’s field presence remains active in Rumbek East offering child protection advocacy, coordinating with local structures, and mapping out critical community needs so we can deliver assistance the moment funds are secured.
