Thank you friends for your support to our initiatives over the last several years.
Sphoorti believes that education is the best weapon to fight and break structural poverty ingrained in society. By observing their condition, we recently started after-school study centers in various impoverished neighborhoods in Tirupati and Madanapalle, which belong to the Southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
We are catering to children, who are aged between 6-15 years. These children attend evening school for quality education and to build a healthy atmosphere filled with games and recreation.
The programme has been launched with contributions from people like you and material support from local communities. The parents of the beneficiary children are also important stakeholders. Some of them contribute towards nutrition and sometimes send cooked food to the children as well. We have appointed volunteers for evening school to cover the academic aspect.
We realised that due to a lack of nutritious food, children are not physically strong and contract diseases due to lack of proper care. Hence we started providing basic nutritious alternatives including milk, biscuits, eggs, etc. Over the last few months, the demand for centers has increased drastically as many communities are interested in opening similar facilities for their children.
We now have 50 centers and 1250 students. We hope to have 100 centers and 3000 students. 75% of the children are girls.
