Sponsor a Child for Conservation

By Ricki Kirschner | Project Leader

The Sponsor a Child for Conservation project was launched three months ago, with a target set at USD28 000, of which we have raised USD10 so far. THANK YOU to everyone that has supported the project!

Recognising that conservation is an on-going concern, the Wildlife Conservation Trust has committed itself to educating younger generations on the importance of wildlife and the environment through tailored educational activities which encourage each learner to embrace his/her ability to make a difference to global conservation.

EXCITING NEWS!

The Wildlife Conservation Trust (WCT) and Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC) recently hosted three groups of orphaned children from a local orphanage. Their ages varied from seven to seventeen. Each week, a group of children stayed at the HESC to learn about wildlife conservation, the environment and their heritage. The children stayed at Nungu Camp, and had delicious meals throughout their stay.

Their days were spent learning about our amazing wildlife in South Africa, to making beaded artwork, physical activities, sightseeing around the area and even a visit to Camp Jabulani for a memorable elephant experience. The nights were spent sitting around a campfire, with the sounds of lions roaring in the background as they shared all their stories from each day’s activities.

Coming from such unfortunate backgrounds, the experience from the week was something they had never experienced before, and would treasure for a lifetime.

Funding Funds raised from the Sponsor a Child for Conservation project allow us to continue to teach the youth how important it is to make conscientious efforts towards saving endangered species and conserving wildlife.

Thank you for your contribution.

Yours in conservation,

The WCT and HESC team
