Summary

WAWF has identified two issue areas where there are critical gaps in funding-the safety of women experiencing violence, and the stability of frontline care workers. The Stand Together Fund will support: Critical services for women experiencing violence & abuse, such as expanded hotline capacity and telehealth visits. Financial assistance for the caregiving workforce and organizations supporting them. Advocacy to ensure that women and girls of color are front and center in recovery efforts.

Challenge

Women and girls are bearing the brunt of the COVID-19 crisis, from shouldering the majority of caregiving to being among the hardest hit by job loss. And for women, trans and gender expansive individuals of color, this impact is exacerbated by structural inequities that were in place long before this pandemic.

Solution

The Stand Together Fund will: Expand hotline capacity at survivor support organizations. Help to shore up financial assistance funds for survivors. Build the capacity for mental health support for survivors. Pay for deep cleaning of facilities, supplies, & food for survivor shelters. Provide stipends for care workers who are unable to work. Provide hazard pay to care workers who must work. Engage in advocacy to ensure that care workers are part of government support moving forward.

Long-Term Impact

The Stand Together Fund is focusing on individuals who are overlooked by emergency funding. This includes youth survivors of domestic violence, undocumented women in the caregiving workforce, and early childhood educators. Once we emerge from this crisis, the road to recovery will be harder for those we serve. Women will have to face months of lost wages, trauma from being trapped with abusers, and help children reestablish normalcy in their education. We will ensure they are not left behind.
