Yaser's Inspiring Journey

By Vasim Ceblut | Project Leader

Dear Supporter,

Yaser, now in his forties, was forcibly displaced from the city of Homs and currently resides in northern rural Aleppo. From birth, he lived with a congenital lower-limb deformity (smooth foot), which severely limited his mobility and prevented him from finding stable employment. Despite these challenges, Yaser remained determined to pursue higher education, hoping to secure a better future for himself and his family—his wife and young daughter.

Over time, social stigmas around hiring individuals with disabilities further reinforced Yaser’s resolve to enter university. He enrolled, driven by the dream of completing his degree and securing a job that would allow him to provide for his family. However, the daily reality of living with a physical disability made it difficult for him to attend classes and move around without assistance.

That changed when the prosthetic center in Al-Bab, run by NSPPL, provided Yaser with a new prosthetic limb. This device has enabled him to walk independently, whether he’s commuting to university or searching for work. Yaser’s joy was immeasurable when he took his first steps without relying on anyone else’s help, bringing him closer to realizing his ambition of both finishing his studies and finding stable employment.

Yaser’s story exemplifies resilience and the transformative impact of targeted assistance. Thanks to collective support and collaboration, individuals like Yaser can overcome barriers, pursue education, and work toward a dignified life. Although his journey has become more hopeful, many others still await the chance to unlock their potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

With gratitude,
