Dear Supporter,
Fatima, a 55-year-old Syrian woman, has lived through tremendous hardships. She resides with her large family—her husband, her son, her daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren. Several years ago, she lost one of her sons to the ongoing conflict, and this tragedy took a severe toll on her mental health. Her challenges were further complicated by chronic conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, and arterial blockage.
Over the last year and a half, Fatima’s health deteriorated significantly. Recurring infections and multiple heart attacks led to the below-knee amputation of her right leg. This life-changing event deepened her sense of sorrow and left her feeling like a burden on her family.
Yet, hope resurfaced three months ago when Fatima, encouraged by her daughter’s husband—himself a beneficiary of our center’s services—visited our center in Reyhanli. There, she received a comprehensive evaluation and a holistic treatment plan that included both psychological and physical rehabilitation.
According to Fatima:
“I saw myself in a dream, walking, even though I knew I didn’t have a leg.”
This dream became the spark that reignited her determination to reclaim her life. Through ongoing psychological support from the team, Fatima began to recognize the pivotal role she still plays as the backbone of her family. With the help of therapy sessions and technical services provided by the center, Fatima took her first steps after the amputation.
Today, Fatima radiates a joy beyond words. Tears of happiness accompanied her inaugural steps, and her pride is evident as she shows her grandchildren, saying:
“Come and see me—I’m walking now!”
Her story is a testament to the power of resilience and the impact of compassionate care. Fatima’s renewed sense of purpose and independence not only uplift her own spirit but also inspire her entire family to look toward a brighter future.
With gratitude and renewed hope,
