Silence Around Gender Violence Still Unbroken

Dear Donors,

Thank you for your interest in the Stop Gender Violence through Artscape Flash Mob project. At this time, no donations have been received, so the planned public awareness activities have not yet begun.

Across many communities in Nigeria, cases of gender-based violence continue to occur, yet many remain hidden. Fear, stigma, and lack of safe reporting options prevent victims from speaking out or seeking help.

This silence allows harmful behavior to continue, leaving many women without support or protection. Public awareness remains low, and open conversations about these issues are still limited in many spaces.

This project is designed to use creative public performances such as dance, music, and visual storytelling to bring attention to gender violence. Through flash mob events in busy locations, the message can reach large audiences and encourage discussion in a relatable way.

The project will also share information on where survivors can seek help, linking them to available support services in a safe and confidential manner.

With increased awareness and open dialogue, communities can begin to challenge harmful beliefs and support those affected.

Update on Artscape flash mob for gender safety

Dear respected donors,

Thank you for supporting our project to stop gender-based violence through Artscape flash mobs in Nigeria. While the donations received are not yet enough to fully launch the events, your contribution helps raise awareness of the urgent need to address rising violence against women.

In Nigeria, 1 in 3 women experiences physical or sexual violence, yet many cases go unreported due to stigma, fear, and lack of support. Since the COVID-19 lockdown, reports of abuse have increased, fueled by economic stress and social restrictions. Harmful cultural norms often justify abuse, leaving victims isolated and communities ill-prepared to prevent violence. Public awareness campaigns remain limited, making it difficult to break cycles of harm.

This project will organize flash mobs in public spaces, combining dance, music, and visual storytelling to challenge norms that tolerate violence. Performers will engage audiences directly, delivering prevention messages and providing printed materials with referral contacts for confidential support. Media coverage and online sharing will extend the reach nationwide, sparking dialogue beyond live audiences and helping more survivors find help.

Once fully funded, these events will create immediate awareness and encourage public conversation about gender-based violence. By using art to make difficult topics visible, the project will help normalize discussion, reduce stigma, and promote safer behaviors. Over time, increased visibility and engagement are expected to encourage reporting, strengthen community pressure against abuse, and support the development of local prevention and protection services.
