Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the Stop Violence Against Women in Northern Nigeria project. Your generosity shows concern for women and girls who face abuse and harmful practices in many communities. At this time, however, the funds received are still too limited to begin the planned outreach and training activities.
Across parts of Northern Nigeria, many women continue to face domestic violence, forced marriage, and social exclusion. Although laws exist to protect women and girls, enforcement is often weak, and many victims are unaware of their rights or the support services available to them.
In some communities, girls are married at very young ages, sometimes before they are ready for adulthood. Dowry disputes can place heavy pressure on families, and women who speak out against abuse may face stigma or rejection. Low literacy levels and fear of retaliation make it difficult for victims to report these experiences or seek help.
This project will work directly with communities to increase awareness and encourage respect for women and girls. Activities will include radio discussions, community dialogue sessions, and training for local volunteers who can share information and guide victims toward available support services. Educational materials in local languages will also be distributed in schools, markets, and community gathering places.
Traditional and religious leaders will be invited to participate in these conversations, helping to promote healthier attitudes and discourage harmful practices. By involving trusted local voices, the project aims to encourage stronger community protection for women and girls.
Although a few donations have been received, the current funding cannot yet support the first phase of training and public education activities. Additional assistance is needed before these efforts can begin.
Sincerely,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
