Support 12 kids with hearing loss in Medellin

Manuela has 8 years old and has developmental disorders of speech and language.

In the Group Pedagogical Intervention, she has developed good tolerance for frustration, and shows a better interaction with her peers.

The professionals who accompany her process evidenced achievements such as:

-The recognition and writing of the words of the parts of the face, body and personal grooming implements.

-Understanding  of the use of defined articles in Spanish.

-Recognition  of the numbers from 1 to 200.

In points for improvement, they mentioned:

The need to work on recognize and apply augmentative and diminutive nouns.

From the Group Phono-Audiological Intervention, she has greater attention of the labiofacial area in the interlocutor, which has benefited her verbal approximations and the articulation of the phonemes. On the other hand, the difficulty in her syntactic organization persists within complex sentences, however, with a coherence and cohesion in the pragmatic aspect of language.

In the School Visits, the first visit was attended by the grade teacher and the teacher support, both report a good performance in class activities, is increasing the process of reading and writing, Manuela is receptive, follows the instructions and attends explanations, sometimes collaborates with other children and with the teacher.

Camila is 9 years old, she is diagnosed with Severe bilateral to severe mixed hearing loss.

In the group pedagogical intervention, she was more engaged with the program, she participated with pleasantness of all the activities, and smile expressions were seen, taking into account she is a very shy girl.

-She identifies by reading: her name and last name, body parts, the syllables by following the sound of the drum or hands, and cleaning tools such as toothbrush, floss, toothpaste, towels, shampoo and soap.

-She also recognizes the vowels and the numbers from 1 to 10.

In the Phonoaudiology intervention, responds through games to auditory stimulations as the presence or absence of sound and words, taking into account auditory debris.

To improve, she needs support for lip-reading to identify simple instructions or words, and confidence for speaking when requested by the profesionals.

Psycho Advice: From the area of psychology during the trimester evaluation and counseling was done to the mother. General aspects of family dynamics and personal situations were addressed. Follow-up and advice will be continued according to the needs.
