This project will establish a youth vocational and resource center in Bunju Dar es Salaam, that will enable 500 teenage single mothers per year to have access to vocational training on tailoring and embroidery as well as establishing markets and trade related networking for their products. Through the project, 500 single teenage mothers will have the opportunity to restore their lost hope and dreams in businesses enterprises of their aspirations in accordance to their capacity and interest.
Currently,more than 200 girls drop out of school each year, due to unwanted pregnancies within Dar es Salaam Region. When this happens, The teenage mother is left to take care of her new family because most of them come from low income households and are likely to get impregnated by young men who are also jobless.Without proper economic interventions they have been opting to engage themselves in prostitution and risky sexual behaviors in order to meet their daily basic family needs.
This project will create sustainable self-employment opportunities to more than 500 young /teenage single mothers in a year by providing access to vocational education in tailoring and embroidery. It will also provide a platform for them to market their products, create channels for networking and provide seed capital for them to start their individual tailoring shops.
The project will educate 500 teenage single mothers in one year allowing them to employ themselves and become self reliant as a result provide for their families' basic needs and well being.
