Spring at the Peace Farm

By Vahidin Omanovic | Executive director

After preparing our Farm for the new crop season, this spring and the beginning of summer were marked by hard work and togetherness.

Our hardworking volunteers from the Eco section of the Daycare Center actively participated in all phases of work, from soil preparation to daily plant care. We planted peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, cabbage, basil and parsley in the greenhouse, thereby contributing to a healthy diet and to the education of our service users.

This season we also tried a new planting technique – planting zucchini in hay, which proved to be an interesting and practical experience.

Our flower garden has become a small oasis of peace, decorated with marigolds and lavender, and is a place for rest, peace and relaxation during working days at the Farm.

A big change at the Farm this season is the completion of work on the lakes, which give the space a completely new look and allow for additional activities and relaxation. A dock was built on one of the lakes, which contributes to the functionality and beauty of the space.

In June, we had the honor of hosting the Swedish Ambassador and her associates, who expressed their desire to see what our Farm looks like and our way of working. During their visit, a wonderful joint lunch was organized, which was a moment of connection that enabled us to share our vision with them.

We are especially glad that the elementary schools from our town brought the children on a trip to the Farm, where the children had fun and learned about life on the farm, as well as learning about nature, permaculture and the importance of environmental protection through practical work and play.

We look forward to the continuation of the season, with new works and more shared moments, believing that together we are building healthier, happier and more connected communities through our work at the Farm.
