Dear Friends,
You may have heard in the news about the very Intense Tropical Cyclone Freddy. This was an exceptionally long-lived, powerful, and deadly storm that traversed the southern Indian Ocean for more than five weeks in February and March 2023.Mbando village where Abundance works, was also affected. We received distressing messages of 63 houses damaged and farms flooded, from our coordinator Moses who lives in Mbando. Of course we had to respond! And your generous donations sent in time helped us to help the people of Mbando.
On 15th of April a team from Abundance led by Clifford Mkanthama went to Mbando village to provide relief materials that were bought using your donations. All 63 households were supported with food stuff; flour, cooking oil, sugar, salt, soya pieces and Bonya (small dry fish) and washing soap. Several meters of black roofing sheet were also procured to aide those who will be rebuilding their homes. The items were given to the village in the presence of a Government official from the Disaster management agency and also in the presence of Chief Mbando. Andrew Kamvazakazi, out team member joined the trip and the items were purchased with help from Grace Moyo, who is also part of Abundance team.
We wish we could share with you the gratitude the villagers expressed, it was touching. Please find attached a report on the relief work, where names of hosueholds supported and photographs of the event is also captured. Very many thanks for your timely support, please know that it has been well received and has helped Mbando village.
