Kigali City was under lockdown from 17th-31st July, due to the response of increasing covid-19 cases during the first two weeks of July; at the time, Centre Marembo staff members have bee working from home as it has been notified by the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Government and cabinet, some early signs of increased covid-19 infection rates and cases were observed.

Prior to the lockdown, strict measures did take place (such as changing opening/business hours, weddings/funerals/social gatherings were postponed, offices should only have key staff employees while the rest must work from homem etc.) to try to countermeasure the infection rate; however, such hopeful results did not come to reality, as the result of the lockdown.

As of know, Centre Marembo's programs are still affected by the changes of covid-19 and have been temporarily closed for almost a year; however, we are working on a project (further details has yet to be revealed) that basically involves a non-traditional employment for the GBV victims and we are planning to re-open our programs, such as our rehabilitation and reintegration shelter, that we hope to begin later this year.

As of now, we launched our second food aid distribution during the lockdown stage of 2021. About 50 teen mothers, GBV victims, and young girls have been provided with food aid. Centre Marembo has also provided finacial support to pay one-month accomodation stage has been provided to eight teen mothers and young girls. Due to covid-19 measures, providing shelter to homeless teen mothers and girls can be challenging to due the limitations on the number of shelter victims, thus the reason for the accomodation payment.

The following are the list of foods distributed during the aid event: 2 kg rice, 3kg of maize flour, 1kg sugar, 1kg porridge, 1 kg salt, 3kg beans, 1kg coconuts, 1kg milk and  biscuits.

Centre Marembo would like to give our thanks to our supportive community for their donations and compassion to helps us give support to the GBV community.

We are thankfuly to have supportive group of people.
