The ongoing conflict in northern Syria has severely disrupted access to clean water, particularly affecting displaced communities living in formal and informal camps in the Afrin region. Northern Syria faces a severe water crisis due to ongoing conflict, infrastructure destruction, and extreme summer heat. Displaced communities in Afrin, living in overcrowded camps, suffer from a lack of access to clean water, leading to poor hygiene and increased risk of water-borne diseases such as cholera. The harsh summer conditions further exacerbate these challenges, putting lives at risk.
Our project will deliver water by truck daily to 15,000 displaced people in Afrin for two and a half months. This intervention will ensure a steady supply of clean water during the hottest period of the year, reducing the risk of disease outbreaks and improving overall health and hygiene. The consistent water supply will help maintain sanitary conditions, prevent heatstroke, and support the community's resilience during this critical time.
By providing a reliable source of clean water, this project will significantly improve the health and well-being of displaced communities in Afrin. Access to safe water will reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases, enhance hygiene practices, and lower the risk of heat-related illnesses. In the long term, this project will contribute to the stability and resilience of these communities, supporting their ability to recover and thrive despite the ongoing conflict and challenging conditions.
