COC Nederland works to build a diverse and inclusive society for LGBTQIA+ people in the Netherlands and over 35 countries. We connect communities, advocate for equal rights, and support local and international movements in areas like education, safety, workplace inclusion, and asylum support. We believe in a world where everyone can be themselves, love who they want, participate fully, and reach their potential. Because everyone deserves that.
While many LGBTQIA+ people in the Netherlands enjoy a safe and fulfilling life, thanks in part to milestones like being the first country to legalize same-sex marriage, this is far from the reality in many other countries where COC operates. In these regions, LGBTQIA+ individuals continue to face severe human rights violations, including discrimination, criminalization, and violence, simply because of who they are or whom they love.
Internationally, COC supports the LGBTQIA+ movement by fostering strong, constructive relationships with activists in regions where support is needed most. We promote dialogue on sexual orientation and gender identity, and help LGBTQIA+ communities access human rights instruments to defend and advance their specific rights. Through these efforts, we strengthen local movements and empower individuals to advocate for equality and protection.
COC's member associations support LGBTQIA+ communities by providing education in schools, organizing social activities, working with law enforcement to improve safety, and advocating locally and regionally. This strengthens networks and empowers individuals, moving closer to COC's vision of a world where everyone can live openly, safely, and with equal rights. Over time, these efforts help build stronger, more resilient LGBTQIA+ movements globally.
