In 2024, COC Nederland continued building strong, inclusive communities for LGBTQIA+ people across the Netherlands and internationally. Through our programs, we connected bicultural LGBTQIA+ individuals, creating safe spaces to meet, share experiences, and find the confidence to be visible. Nine grassroots organizations supporting bicultural LGBTQIA+ people were strengthened via the Respect2Love Fund, and nearly 1,000 LGBTQIA+ individuals in urgent need received support in unsafe countries. Our coaching, training, and networking initiatives empowered activists to advocate for human rights and create lasting change.
We also focused on specific communities within the LGBTQIA+ spectrum. Our Pink 50+ program expanded significantly, supporting older LGBTQIA+ adults in care institutions and creating networks of ambassadors and Chosen Family groups. For young people, our Jong&Out community and GSA programs helped 27 groups engage with peers, build confidence, and promote inclusion in schools. These initiatives ensure that LGBTQIA+ people at all stages of life feel supported and connected.
In addition to community-building, we facilitated international collaboration, sharing expertise with organizations in over 35 countries. We provided resources and guidance to activists advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights and helped develop tools, such as a toolkit for diplomats, to improve protection and visibility for LGBTQIA+ people worldwide. Through these combined efforts, our project continues to strengthen self-aware, resilient communities, enabling LGBTQIA+ individuals to thrive safely and confidently.
