Support Community Health Workers in Rural Area

In Rwanda, from 3 January 2020 to 4:26pm CEST, 2 June 2021, there have been 27,023 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 357 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 31 May 2021, a total of 400,096 vaccine doses have been administered.

The current population of Rwanda is 13,251,873 based on projections of the latest United Nations data.

Based on the available vaccination data, only a small number have been vaccinated.  hence, the COVID-19 prevention measures announced by the Government of Rwanda must continue to be rigorously observed, especially frequent hand-washing and physical distancing. In addition, face masks must be worn in public and multi-family compounds. 

Broadly, CHWs work as community advocates, conduct outreach and community engagement for public health programs, and provide health education and services. Home-based care supported by CHWs can help relieve the substantial burden the COVID-19 pandemic has placed on healthcare systems worldwide.

Since the beginning of this project, we were able to provide masks, hand sanitizers and Infrared thermometers have been distributed to more than 2000 Community health workers (CHWs), pictured here, however only a very small number (20 CHWs) received Infrared thermometers. These Community Health workers expressed their gratitude for your support that is keeping them safe.

Rwanda is doing well among the countries that have been doing well in fighting COVID-19, However COVID-19 is still increasing in Rwanda. This is not only for Rwanda but also for other countries all over the world. We all believe that the only solution is a vaccine. Unfortunately African countries including Rwanda, It will be very difficult to get a vaccine on time, hence, the preventive measures before a vaccine is crucial! January has been the deadliest month for the East African country. The authorities’ say more than half of the total deaths were recorded January 2021, as well as one third of the total 13,885 cases. While in Rwanda we are waiting a Covid-19 vaccine, your support to this project could help very much to reduce the spread of the virus as well as morbidity and mortality.
