Strengthening Ebola Prevention Among Informal Cross-Border Traders
Informal cross-border traders are essential to local economies in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, facilitating the daily movement of goods and services. However, their frequent mobility and close interactions also increase their vulnerability to Ebola transmission. Because of your support, targeted interventions are reaching these traders with critical prevention messaging.
Outreach efforts are being conducted at trading points, markets, and transit routes, focusing on symptom awareness, hand hygiene, and early reporting. Traders are also encouraged to adopt safe practices during transactions, including minimizing physical contact and promoting handwashing among customers.
As a result, traders are becoming more informed and proactive in protecting themselves and their clients. Many are now acting as informal ambassadors of health, sharing prevention messages within their networks and across borders.
This engagement is particularly important because traders connect multiple communities, making them key influencers in prevention efforts.
Your support is helping transform a high-risk group into a powerful force for awareness and behavior change.
By strengthening prevention among informal traders, you are reducing transmission risks while supporting the continuity of livelihoods.
