They can spend time with their peers and seek support for the harm caused by their parents' consumption problems.

Children are particularly affected by their parents' alcohol problems and are therefore especially at risk. Alcohol problems are heavily tabooed, stigmatized and associated with feelings of shame, which is why children are reluctant to seek help.
Blue Cross Denmark has built up community centers for children in four different cities, where they can meet peers and seek mutual and professional support. Counseling services are available or children can spend free time in an alcohol-free environment where they can talk about their parents' addiction and how they are affected by it. Blue Cross offers care, counseling and treatment and seeks to ease the pain, confusion and shame associated with family members' addiction.
Blue Cross Denmark builds relationships and trust with both the users of its treatment services and their children. By offering a space for children to speak freely about their parents' addiction and the effect is has on them, Blue Cross empowers youth to live a life free of alcohol and other drugs and build healthy social networks. This gives children a longer-term chance to lead healthy lives.
