There are many children in Denmark who are growing up in abusive environments. It is very important to support these kids as early as possible to help them to grow into healthy adults. At the Barnets Blå Houses, these vulnerable kids receive individual support while spending time in a safe space. The feeling of loneliness can be a very painful emotion for children and young people growing up in a family with substance abuse. Many of them are alone with their thoughts, feelings and worries and withdraw from their social environment. The Barnets Blå Houses welcome these children into their community and give them the space to be kids, have fun in everyday activities and build friendships with peers.
For children, youth and their families who are or have been affected by alcohol or other drug problems, it can be particularly helpful to seek out like-minded people who have experienced similar things and can better understand how they feel. At the Barnets Blå Houses, families become part of an inclusive community where loneliness and taboo are broken.
The Barnets Blå Houses are a refuge especially for children. In addition to therapeutic activities, they cook, play games or engage in creative activities. The focus is on strengthening the children in everyday life. They can laugh together, but also talk about their difficulties. The children spend time in the nature to paint, built little stations with stones and connect with each other.
Parents can participate in some activities together with their children and connect with other parents. The Barnets Blå Houses help them to find back to the role of a parent. Families with challenges can heal better if they meet with other families who are in similar situations. Barnets Blå Houses additionally run group meetings exclusively for parents affected by alcohol- or other drug problems. In these weekly meetings they come together not only to talk and exchange but also to make music together or exercise.
If you want to take part in changing the lives of these families and their vulnerable kids, please consider donating to this project. The Barnets Blå Houses can only continue their important work with your generous support. Thank you very much for everything you give!
