The cold winter weather has really turned on in Denmark. The cold is unmistakable, which is why the Grace camp opened its annual winter shelter for the homeless on November 15th. The shelter provides those in need with a warm bed to sleep in – a basic comfort for many, but not for those without a home. By the first weekend, the shelter had already reached full capacity!
Snow and freezing temperatures make spending the night outdoors exteremly dangerous, making winter shelters a lifesaver for homeless people. The evening and nighttime hours are particularly challenging for those living on the streets, as there are few safe places to find refuge. If someone gets wet, there’s ofen no way to dry off. Sitting in damp clothes on a bench or in a shed in sub-zero conditions can be very dangerous. The winter shelter offers homeless people a secure place to sleep for up to a week. There are a total of 16 sleeping places, which are drawn by lot every Friday.
Homelessness arises from a variety of complex factors, but the Blue Cross Denmark is dedicated to helping people find a path out of it. No one should be forgotten or left to face the cold alone! Blue Cross Denmark works every day to build a future where homelessness is not a reality in Denmark. Additionally, they are providing support, comfort, and a helping hand to people during their most vulnerable moments.
Thank you to Blue Cross Denmark for this valuable work that challenges the taboo of homelessness and provides people with a home. Thank you for the warmth and comfort you offer to those in need!
And a HUGE THANK YOU for your generous donation that makes this work possible!!! <3
