Across Denmark, Blue Cross Denmark (Blå Kors Danmark) offers a wide range of services for people facing difficult life circumstances. One especially innovative way of reaching children and young people is Star Moments (Stjernestunder) - a local initiative built around something many vulnerable kids too often miss out on: simple, joyful experiences in a safe community.
A free break from everyday challenges
Star Moments is a free offer for children and young people aged 7–18 who, for different reasons, need a pause from a hard daily reality. For some, life is affected by addiction in the family, poverty, or mental health challenges. For others, it’s stress, loneliness, or responsibilities no child should have to carry. Star Moments gives them space to breathe and to be “just kids” for a while.
Fun outings, real belonging
The activities focus on positive social experiences that strengthen connection and confidence. A day out might be a fishing trip, making campfire bread, or a visit to an amusement park or a local attraction. The goal isn’t perfect plans or big performances but rather laughter, safety, and shared time.
The aim is to get the children to experience what it feels like to be part of a group where they are seen, included, and valued, alongside other young people and caring adult volunteers.
Powered by volunteers, rooted locally
Behind every outing is a dedicated volunteer leader team that plans and runs activities with warmth and consistency. Star Moments takes place in several Danish cities, including Copenhagen, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, Horsens, Vejle, and Herning and by that bring support close to where children live.
The little moments that build hope
The idea is, that often, the most meaningful change comes from small things: a shared joke on the bus ride home, someone remembering your name or just feeling included in a group for the first time.
Blue Cross Denmark believes and hopes that these “star moments” can help young participants grow in self-esteem, courage, and by making them feel safe and value give them hope for the future.
