Support for Children in Denmark

Thanks to your support there is an increased level of activities and an increase in target groups in the Barnets Blue Houses this winter!

In Copenhagen there have been 86 counseling sessions, 37 meetings with collaborators, 21 cafés for parents and 20 communal meals. There are 3 concurrent therapy groups used by 12 children and the Copenhageners started a Sunday club for a group of 6 children, which is led by 4 volunteers and is a huge success. In addition to the regular social group activities the children groups have been on nice excursions to a circus workshop at the circus museum, ice skating and more.

In Aalborg, a new children’s group meeting on Sundays started up in mid February, and in addition to ongoing activities, seasonal celebrations and excursions to local treats for children, the Blue House has been  equipped and opened up for even younger children. Moving forward, Mondays will be open for 3-5 year old children with their parents and Fridays are open for pregnant women and parents of 0-2 year olds.

Psychological tests show improvements an all levels. A child explains:

“It’s been fun and nice, I’ve become more happy and I feel safer and more open. I’m better at controlling myself and better at talking about my feelings”

A parent explains:

“I’ve been wanting an offer like the Blue House for such a long time and I’m happy it’s finally possible to be social with other families, that we can treat each other as equals and at the same time help support and building of each other. The greatest joy is to be myself, without feeling different. I wish there were more places like The Blue House, that would eliminate the taboo” (about alcohol abuse)
