The team in Denmark has started a new initiative - The Baby’s Blue House in Aalborg. The service is geared toward new mothers, pregnant women and babies and it is proving successful. Five mothers and one pregnant woman have started attending therapeutic counselling and dinners for families and the sense of community they feel is helping the initiative gain momentum.
The users express their gratitude for being supported and ‘seen’. They explain that the first initial step in asking for help with their addiction may be hard to overcome, but that they quickly feel safe within the community and are developing trust and seeking help.
In Copenhagen the Barnets Blue House also launched a new initiative targeted at girls aged 9-14. Five volunteers are giving their time to spend with the girls in need of something extra. The "girls club" is carrying out activities like cooking together and making creative handiwork as well as practicing self-defence and doing outdoor activities. The purpose is to make friends and create a setting with grownup contact, for a group who is in lack of exactly that - they are able to communicate on a daily basis.
Both places are also developing their partnerships with the authorities as well as with other private parties / initiatives. For example, the Barnets Blue House in Copenhagen held a summer party with 80 participants among the community with "Mødrehjælpen" (Mothers Help).
Your contributions allow us to provide new and innovative services to children of alcoholics with a variety of needs - from adult role modelling to care for young mothers and their infants. Asking for help is the first step to recovery and leading a meaningful life, free from addiction. A warm thanks for your contribution to "Support for Children of Alcoholics in Denmark!"
