A summer full of activities and excursions for both the children alone and for families has come to an end. The Barnets Blue House in Copenhagen even held a summer vacation together, as state funds supported 9 families in going to the beach for three days. There was a waiting list to join, and therefore we wish for more excursions both short and long, as such events support the much-needed community building. Another great community building activity held by the centers is the weekly recurring activities such as children’s groups, parent café (informal gathering while waiting for the children) and the 'family dinners'. This key activity, having community dinners, increasingly prove itself worthy. In the short-term, they serve as stress-relief to many of the mothers who can better focus on being present with their babies and in the longer-term they gradually build the ability to handle the everyday challenges of motherhood. In Copenhagen the regular Thursday dinners have been so popular that there have simply not been room for all the interested parties.
The new Baby's Club in Aalborg currently centers around 6 families and more families are joining in as a lot of effort has been put into making the offer and service known to the target groups. We have started to see other organizations as well as the municipality start to refer parents and children who need to stabilize, normalize and balance their lives.
There is an increased focus on Music therapy (the musical therapist in Aalborg returned from maternity leave) and it is wonderful to experience how music helps build and strengthen the relationship between mother and child. In Copenhagen, there a new volunteer force that assists and strengthen both the therapeutic and social efforts. The team has applied for external funding to provide a part-time position for a therapist who will have a focus on building the offer for the 0-5 year olds.
The improved social network and building confidence are the primary keys in the work of the Barnets Blue House. Especially the young mothers take this in and integrate it into improved life quality for themselves and their children.
We thank you deeply for your interest and support, which we treasure!
