We fund and support projects and initiatives across Germany that promote democratic values, protect minorities, and stand up against racism and antisemitism. These efforts take place in youth centers, schools, sports clubs, remembrance work, refugee support, and in the arts and culture. Our focus is on grassroots projects in rural areas and on initiatives that are unlikely to receive funding elsewhere. Since our foundation in 1998, we have funded more than 2,400 local projects.
Across Germany, especially in rural areas, democratic initiatives are under growing pressure from far-right threats, disinformation, and political hostility. Public funding is declining, and local activists often lack the resources to effectively counter extremism and support those targeted by hate and exclusion.
This project supports grassroots initiatives across Germany that promote democracy and human rights. It provides funding, strategic advice, training, and networking opportunities - empowering local groups, especially in underserved regions, to take a strong and visible stand against right-wing extremism, racism, and antisemitism.
The project strengthens democratic culture throughout Germany. It fosters resilient local networks, safe spaces, and inclusive communities. Marginalized voices become more visible and empowered, contributing to a long-term shift toward solidarity, civic engagement and active resistance against hate. This supports our overarching goal of fostering a society in which everyone can live freely-without fear of exclusion, discrimination, or persecution.
