The very thought of abandoning a child is painful not only for the child but for the person who has made that decision. Sometimes we dont understand especially not knowing back ground history. What we can be assured of is that Fikelela Child and YOuth Care Centre situated at 23069 Christmas Tinto Street, Mandela Park Khayelitsha touches lives and makes a difference. Your support enables us to make the difference. We recently had a premature baby admitted to the facility, tiny not even the length of a ruler, yesterday that same baby was given an all clear at the hospital where he was assessed. Grown beautifully, gained weight listens attentively to the stories being told, the singing of the children, the action taking place and he moves his head following the sounds. It contributes to his growth and the rest of the children. Music, singing, laughing, jumping and dancing, creating a therapeutic environment adds to the success of making a difference. They are removed from their environment where they are broken and brought to a safe space where we are able to nurture, develop and be the difference that they seek. Thank you to each and every donor for your contribution in enabling us to do the important work with our children of the future. We are happy children and we live in a caring environment where we are loved every day.

Time flies is an expression used so often, if we look at the children and the progress made with each of them you can believe the expression. A little baby is brought to us for nurtuing and developing,we have seen the miraculous change in them as they are cradled daily, massage with aromathery oils, when you look into their eyes and the connection is instataneous you are so grateful for the opportunity to touch that life. Before you know it those little brown eyes starts smiling at you there is a bond that develops and that little child is no longer abandoned but rather being settled in a therapeutic environment at a facility that they can call home. The little smiles, the sound of laughter or even when their are tears the joy of having them around is wonderful. Your donation enables us to spend time with them whether it be creative play, colouring in pages, listening to music , playing dress up and doing career day where they introduce themselves as a fireman, a doctor, a nurse, a educator, a plumber, a electrician, a pilot we love hearing these titles attached to them. We teach our children to dream big and to strive to do their best every day. Our little babies i was referring to are encouraged to sit in on the programs we have seen the magic being performed as they start bouncing lifting their hands moving with the older children as if they are participating which they are at just a different level. Your donation enables us to councel our children and listen to their stories of pain , we have learnt to work with them and to try and ease their pain as best we can. Continue to bless us with your kind donation in order for us to bring about the change in their little lives. Lots of blessings and love from all of us

Reaching out to make a difference. It starts with you and me thank you for your donation which enables us to make a difference to the lives of abandoned children. To love them and care for them is the easy part they have this amazing ability to creep into your heart and to bring joy to everyday. Happy children , smiling children is a good sign when you have this enormous responsibility to let the children know that they are important and that they are special. It takes hard work, strategic thinking and planning with the assistance of care workers, social worker, manager , administrator , the drivers , the cleaning to get the children through the day. WE are 28 staff in total which includes myself as the Director of the project. Every day without fail as we open our eyes we acknowledge the new day and we welcome the sunshine, the rain, the wind, the clouds we have breakfast together and our day then starts with the educational program from 9-00 till 12-30 . Each child receives a book with their own personal profile this is pasted into their books and when they leave and are re-unified with family or foster families they take their memories with them. This is also a good way for us to monitor their progress and to show them when they arrived and what they were not able to do and what they have achieved. The older children are enjoying the life skills program which we equip them with for better choices, improving their relationships with each other and to deal with their own personal stories in a better way. Many of the older children don’t understand why they have been neglected, abandoned, removed from their homes and we have to affirm them all of the time. Our older children as they understand their situations we are beginning to see behaviour change and we have now arranged for counselling sessions for them with an off site service provider. WE have our own internal support group sessions with them on a bi-weekly schedule and they love having these sessions as they listen to the stories of their peers they realise they are not the only ones experiencing these feelings and emotions. Thank you for assisting us to make a difference to the lives of the children.
