This initiative was launched to train 100 adolescent girls in Saint-Louis in sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, and food systems innovation. Our goal is to equip them with practical skills, confidence, and community leadership to transform local food security and economic resilience.
The hope these young girls had when we started this project is immense and strengthens our determination to support them and help them find their way out of poverty.
What We've Achieved So Far
Despite limited resources, we’ve made meaningful progress:
40 girls enrolled in the first training cohort
Two pilot garden sites established using agroecological methods
Local mentors mobilized, including women farmers and agronomy students from Gaston Berger University
Nutrition and climate awareness sessions held in partnership with Lab-Metics
These early steps have sparked enthusiasm and hope—not just among the girls, but across their families and neighborhoods.
Challenges We’re Facing
The journey hasn’t been easy. We’re navigating:
Limited tools and irrigation equipment, slowing garden productivity
Transportation barriers for girls traveling from remote areas
Shortage of training materials and protective gear
Need for psychosocial support, as many participants face social pressure and economic hardship
These obstacles threaten the continuity and scale of the program. Yet the girls remain committed, showing up with resilience and curiosity every day.
Voices from the Field
"Before this training, I never imagined I could grow food or earn income. Now I want to teach my sisters and start a garden at home.” — Aissatou, 17, participant
“We see these girls as future leaders. They are learning to feed their communities and themselves.” — Fatou, local mentor
Our Call to GlobalGiving Donors
We are deeply grateful for the support that made this project possible. To reach all 100 girls and ensure lasting impact, we urgently need:
Additional garden tools and irrigation kits
Transport stipends for rural participants
Training materials and digital learning support
Funds to expand to two more incubation sites
Every donation helps us plant not just crops—but confidence, dignity, and opportunity.
What’s Next
With your continued support, we aim to:
Complete training for all 100 girls by during the next 10 months
Purchase enough materials for the equipment of the incubator
Create a peer-led cooperative for girls agricultural startups after the incubation
Document impact with stories, photos, and data for future scaling
Thank you for believing in the power of girls to transform agriculture—and their futures.
