Workshop with pianist Pablo Lapidusas 7.2.17
Pablo Lapidusas is a jazz pianist from Portugal. We gathered for a festive workshop in honor of his arrival in Israel.
Pablo was excited by the diverse musical encounter and gave personal attention to each of the participants.
The workshop focused on group improvisation while using motifs and repetitions for each player, which together create great richness.
Pablo explained about creating common language in music- bridging gaps, a cornerstone theme in the workshops.
Workshop with clarinetist Oran Etkin 14.2.17
Oran Etkin is an Israeli-American clarinet player who lives in New-York. He engages in modern jazz music and world music.
The workshop began with a group improvisation exercise of all the participants, in an attempt to "frame" the silence. Giving a special place to silence in music by playing/singing.
The silence was a great inspiration and the group performed a long joint improvisation with no words and definitions.
You could also distinguish ideas and techniques within the improvisation that were learned in previous workshops, like unconventional use of the instruments and development of motifs.
After that, Oran chose smaller teams for improvisation, pairs and groups of three, who worked together and were inspired by each other.
Workshop with saxophonist Hen Amar 21.2.17
Hen Amar, saxophone player, composer and musical arranger, graduated from the Academy of Music in Jerusalem.
At the workshop Hen focused on finding personal language, a "trademark" as improvising musicians.
There was a conversation about the personal training method of each of the musicians at the workshop.
Hen chose certain techniques and challenged the players to expand the variety of ideas for improvisation from the specific technique.
Later on we performed an improvisation in which we focused on the way of accompaniment. We learned how each instrument can be used as accompaniment for another player, while listening and giving proper support to the improviser.
