Sponsored Jatituhu Students Excel in School Exams and Primary Schools Chess Competition

By I Komang Kurniawan | Chairman & Team Leader

Our 12 Jatituhu School GGUK crowd funded students have excelled recently, and we are very proud to congratulate our 6th grade primary student, I Kadek SW, who came 2nd in the chess competition between all primary schools, including 8 government schools, in Ban village. This competition is held every year, but 2017 is the first time EBPP students have entered.  Kadek also got the highest academic score in his class when we distributed the first semester report book last December with total score 930. The second place was Ni Kadek S with total score 928 and the third place was Ni Nyoman M with total score 925. Proudly these 3 students are funded through GGUK.

The beginning of the year 2017 is a year which is full of activities for these twelve students from Jatituhu School. Four of these students now in primary school grade 6 will take the government National Exam in early May 2017 to graduate and hope to proceed to junior high school, so will have to study harder so they can pass the exam!

“Because I have to pass the examination, almost every night I always study longer than usual so that I would be able to be the best, and I don’t want to make the donors felt disappointed if I could not pass the exam” said Ni Nyoman P, one of the grade 6 students. She hopes that all students who participates the government National Exam will pass the exam with a very good result.

Our students in 5th grade have been busy learning Balinese language so that their village retains their traditional roots. In fact, many Balinese cannot write using the Hindu Balinese letters, because all of the letters and the writing are very different compared with the letter they write every day at school. The Balinese letters exist since a long time ago in the past, and were developed in India and introduced came to Bali. The way to writing the sentences using the Balinese letters called Sanskrit. This letter is usually uses to write a purified story or Balinese spelling called Mantra which relates to Hindu Religion in Bali. Already, many of our 5th grade primary school students can write by using Sanskrit letters.

Since July last year, our junior high students have been busy making the product of bamboo as one of their extra curricula classes. I Nengah D who used to be a very shy student can now make many kinds of bamboo products such as a dragonfly, a photo frame and some music instruments. There are a lot of bamboo plants around their environment where they live, but none of them could use it to become a product which is more useful for their life. So that is why Duana is one of the junior students who learn from EBPP staff in our EMpower programme in order to process bamboo into added value product. He also wants to have a better future by selling bamboo products. He said, “I want to learn how to make furniture from bamboo, so bamboos in my place will become more useful and valuable”.

Overall, funding from the donors through our crowdfunding campaign is very useful for these twelve children in Jatituhu School. We can see from the way of their thinking about their future is changing. They want to be a successful person in the future through education. They also want to learn many things at school to improve their knowledge and for a better future. Thank you very much to all the donors, without your help these twelve students could not get their hope and dream.
